Revisiting The 60's Through Art

Step back in time and experience one of the most exciting, colorful, and controversial decades through the world of art! In this brand-new and eagerly anticipated course, students will explore the culture and creativity of the 1960s while creating their own artwork inspired by the people, music, movements, and visual styles that defined the era.


What We Will Explore & Create:

Throughout the eight-week course, we’ll take a colorful trip through the art and culture of the 60s, exploring:

  • Abstract Expressionism and the artists who helped shape the movement

  • Influential musicians and the instruments that became iconic symbols of the decade

  • The vibrant, psychedelic artwork of Peter Max and other influential artists

  • Protest art and the powerful social movements of the era

  • The fashion, imagery, and pop culture that made the 60s so distinctive

  • The bold colors, patterns, symbols, and visual language of the psychedelic era


What You'll Learn & Experience:

Students will be given a variety of creative assignments inspired by the artists and cultural movements of the 1960s. Using a range of painting and drawing mediums, you'll have the opportunity to experiment with bold color, expressive mark-making, imaginative compositions, and the distinctive visual styles of this unforgettable decade.

No previous experience is necessary—all levels are welcome! Whether you're drawn to psychedelic art, music, fashion, social history, or simply love experimenting with color, this class offers a fun and creative way to revisit the 60s through art.
