Painting Portraits: Animals and Humans
Instructor: Erin Gillespie
Portrait painting is one of the most rewarding—and challenging—forms of painting. In this requested course, students will learn how to capture the personality, character, and unique qualities of both animal and human subjects.
The first four weeks will focus on painting animals, giving students the opportunity to explore fur, texture, expression, and the unique characteristics that bring an animal portrait to life. During the final four weeks, students will turn their attention to human portraiture, learning to observe and paint facial features, proportions, skin tones, expression, and personality.
What You'll Learn & Experience:
Erin will provide numerous demonstrations throughout the course, breaking down the portrait-painting process into approachable steps. Students will also receive individual attention and personalized feedback as they work through their paintings.
Because portraiture can be challenging, this class is designed to provide plenty of hands-on instruction and encouragement. Students will have the opportunity to develop their skills while experimenting with their preferred painting medium.
All levels and painting mediums are welcome! Whether you're completely new to portrait painting or looking to strengthen your existing skills, you'll find a supportive environment to explore this rewarding art form.
