🎨 PAJAMA SEWING SERIES: MAKE YOUR FIRST GARMENT!
Ready to sew your very first garment from start to finish? This Pajama Sewing Series is designed for adults (17+) who want to learn how to use a commercial sewing pattern and build wearable, comfortable pajamas using a sewing machine.
Over two class sessions, you’ll be guided step‑by‑step through the garment‑making process - from cutting fabric to sewing elastic, finishing seams, and adding buttons. By the end of the series, you’ll leave with a completed pajama set and the confidence to take on future apparel projects.
This class is beginner‑friendly, though basic familiarity with a sewing machine is helpful. You may bring your own machine or use one of ours.
✂️ WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
• How to read and cut a commercial sewing pattern
• Accurate fabric layout and cutting techniques
• Sewing pajama bottoms with an elastic waistband
• Constructing a pajama top with buttons and buttonholes
• How to finish seams for durability and comfort
• Basic fit adjustments such as lengthening, shortening, and grading between sizes
• Apparel‑sewing skills you can apply to future clothing projects
🧵 CLASS STRUCTURE
This series meets over two sessions:
Session 1 — June 8th
• Cutting your pattern pieces
• Beginning construction of pajama bottoms
Session 2 — June 15th
• Completing pajama bottoms
• Sewing the pajama top
• Buttons, buttonholes, and finishing touches
🧶 WHAT’S INCLUDED
• Sewing machines (studio machines are first come, first served)
• Fabric scissors and cutting stations
• Basic tools including pins, needles, chalk, seam rippers, and rulers• Individualized, hands‑on instruction
(You’re welcome to bring your own tools if you prefer.)
🧵 WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED (PLEASE BRING)
Pattern
• Simplicity 3971 - a unisex button‑down pajama pattern with elastic‑waist bottoms
Fabric
• Stable light‑ to mid‑weight cottons (such as quilting cotton)
• Purchase fabric according to the size chart on the pattern
• Fabric must be washed before the first class
• You may complete View B or C (short or long sleeves; pants or shorts), which affects yardage
Notions
• All‑purpose thread to match your fabric
• Four (4) ¾‑inch buttons
• 1½ yards of ¾‑inch wide elastic
• 1⅛ yards of lightweight fusible interfacing
