Intro to Pottery Wheel Throwing in Colorado Springs

This beginner friendly pottery class is perfect for anyone interested in learning the pottery wheel while still having the flexibility to explore handbuilding if they choose. No prior experience required. Whether you are brand new to ceramics or returning to clay after some time away, this workshop offers a relaxed and hands on introduction to working with clay.

Most of the class will focus on learning the basics of wheel throwing including centering clay, pulling walls, and shaping simple forms on the wheel. If you prefer or want to mix things up, you are also welcome to use your class time for handbuilding techniques instead.

✨ What You’ll Make:

You will have the opportunity to create up to 3 clay pieces using the pottery wheel, handbuilding, or a combination of both.

Possible projects include:

☕ Cups or mugs

🥣 Small bowls

🌿 Planters or trays

🕯 Luminaries or decorative pieces

🐉 Sculptural or imaginative forms

We will also touch on basic tool use, surface texture, and ways to shape and refine your work to give it personality.

Materials Fee: $15

Total: $105 per person (includes all materials and firings)

Finished pieces will be glazed, fired, and ready for pickup 4–6 weeks after the workshop. We’ll send you a notification when they’re ready!
